Matured for twelve years in old oak casks, this full flavoured malt contains aromas of ripe pears and fragrant mixed fruit. It is nicely balanced on the palate, with a pleasing sweet smoothness and a crisp apple finish.
Highland Park is produced on Orkney at the most northerly whisky distillery in Scotland. Unusually, it malts its own barley using locally cut peat. In 1984 Highland Park became the only whisky ever to have scored a rating of one hundred percent by The Scotsman newspaper. The twelve year old sampled here is fresh, clean and aromatic on the nose, while spanish oranges and clover honey tantalise the palate. After the second sip a hint of jasmine and hazel nut breaks through. The finish is long and spicy.
